I was disappointed in Man of Steel and it seems when I tell people this, they act like I am trying to discourage them from seeing the movie. I did not hate the movie, I just felt it could have been so much more. Hence the disappointment. So because of this I have decided to talk about the positive things in Man of Steel.
Amy Adams as Lois Lane: This is the best portrayal of Lois I have seen in regards to television or film. Lois was less damsel in distress and more fearless reporter. Amy Adams nailed the part and really brought the character to life. If they continue this franchise then I hope she will stick around and give us all a kick-ass Lois Lane.
Michael Shannon as Zod: General Zod has only seen the silver screen in two other outings and one of them the character saw brief screen time. He also appeared in Smallville, but I never saw the show so I can not comment on how Zod was portrayed. When I heard Zod would be the central villain, I was very excited. Michael Shannon’s performance as Zod will be hard to top and any actor who has to portray the character in any future incarnations will have their work cut out for them. I enjoyed that Zod was willing to do whatever it took to carry out his purpose, but underneath it he was haunted by some of the things he had done.
The action sequences: These were all very well done and it was something new to see Superman in a brawl that leveled most of Metropolis. I also felt it kind of bold to do such as thing as wreck the city and not carry the fight out in the middle of nowhere. One has to reflect on the casualties of Superman vs Zod and what this may or may not do to Superman’s public image in the sequel.
All this movie needed was a brief scene in which a bald gentleman watches this alien tech land on Earth and proclaim that he must have it. I kid, but it would have been kind of cool.
So despite my disappointment in this movie, I will see any and all sequels and hope that they truly deliver.
I have decided I want to take up writing all these ideas I have in my head. So I guess start looking forward to whatever I decide to put on here. Plus you guys can give me feedback.
You had one job, Man of Steel, one job. It was to not suck.
Ever since we got engaged, my fiancee has been wanting to know more about comics. She really loves Batman as I started her on Batman: Year One, Hush, The Long Halloween, and The Killing Joke. I told her the story of how DC editorial gave the okay for Barbara Gordon’s crippling and she laughed harder than I have ever heard anyone laugh. I am marrying the perfect girl.
- The Avengers: We have a Hulk.
- The Dark Knight Rises: We have a better storyline.
